About Me (Michael Richardson)
I'm a cofounder of Urban Airship, which you should definitely be using for your push notifications and in app purchase solution if you're a mobile application developer.
Here's an official bio:
Michael Richardson is a cofounder and technical product manager at Urban Airship, which powers push notifications and in app purchase for some of the most successful mobile applications. He lives in Portland, Oregon. In addition to working for Urban Airship, he works with the Portland technology and entrepeneurial community as a resource for early stage startup advice, building products, and mobile application strategy.Urban Airship started in May of 2009 when Michael and three cofounders got together and noticed an opportunity around helping mobile application developers get to market faster and with a reliable server infrastructure. The previous startup they worked at, Vidoop, went under. To fund the early days of Urban Airship, Michael and another cofounder went on Oregon's Self Employment Assistance Program, which provides unemployment benefits to start a company. After successfully bootstrapping the company for nine months, the cofounders realized that they needed funding to take advantage of the fast growing mobile space. In February 2010, they announced their Series A with True Ventures. As of winter of 2011, Urban Airship has sent almost ten billion notifications, talks to millions of mobile devices every day, and has over sixty employees. After spending the first two and a half years of Urban Airship as an engineer, Michael moved to the product team in the fall of 2011.
Before Urban Airship, Michael sold bacon over the internet at Bac'n (with Scott Kveton, a cofounder and the CEO of Urban Airship) and ran technology at a political consulting company. He grew up in rural Idaho before moving to Portland in 2003. He attended Reed College and graudated with a BA in political science in 2007.
